Toy Soldier & Model Figure  |  Issue 221
This edition is kicked off by Editor, Stuart Hessay’s essay on all the fun and excitement surrounding the 36th Annual Chicago Toy SoldierShow. Also included in this issue is a look at “Polo: The Sport of Kings” by The Toy Soldier Museum’s James H. Hillestad. Also included is an article headlined “Zulu!” by John Lord Booth II who gives an account of how a dramatic 1964 film depicting the British defense of Rorke’s Drift “transfixed” him.
In “Wooden Soldiers for Children’s Floor Wars,” Editor, Stuart Hessney, examines how Patrick Alessandri of Regimental Colours produces old-fashioned toy soldiers.
Gerhardt C. Muench chronicles how he enjoys collecting and displaying figures of his favorite comedy team, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, just for laughs. He has collected 27 sets depicting the duo.
Elsewhere, Stuart Hessney profiles Mohawk Indian Chief Joseph Brant, the compelling subject of TS&MF’s exclusive new subscription premium figure made by Tedtoys and W. Britain, in an article titled “Drums Along the Mohawk.” The special figure is being complemented by a fantastic giveaway of a diorama valued at $2,150 U.S.! Titled the “The Raid,” the diorama depicts a peaceful frontier farm in Colonial America about to fall prey to an Indian war party on a sunny autumn day during the course of the American Revolutionary War.
