Gender is ‘between your ears and not between your legs’. [Chaz Bono].
For many transgendered women the intention in wearing feminine clothes is to look as much like a real woman as possible. However, what would be thought of a man with a bald head, beard, hairy arms and legs, sitting in the pub, sipping his pint and puffing at his pipe wearing a red skirt, blouse, visible lacy camisole, tights, high heels, lipstick and painted nails? He isn’t trying to be a woman, just enjoying wearing some of the clothes normally associated with women. He would be ridiculed and most pubs would chuck him out. People would come from miles around just to stare. So going the full nine yards to appear female is the easier option for many transgendered women. Further ‘enhancements’ become necessary such as a facial, legs and hands hair-removal then nostrils and ears and complete torso. Strange how underarm hair is seen as UNfeminine for a woman but standard practice for men?
