COS PLAY GURL

By Jenn Hunt

Even for those of us who dress wonderfully, do makeup perfectly, walking easily in heels and speak in a perfect fem voice, the idea of going out into the world can bring all our doubts, fears and insecurities to the surface. How many of you are familiar with this scenario. You look with great anticipation to the weekend determined to be your true self, and wade into the universe. With keen excitement you pick out your favorite outfit, slip into your favorite pair of killer high heels, do your makeup just so, style your hair just the way you like it and then, after admiring yourself in the mirror as a picture of feminine perfection, walk to your door and freeze. Maybe you get into your car and drive somewhere, but you can’t bring yourself to get out. Seized with self-doubt, you suddenly wonder if you’re passable? - if someone will recognize you?

Sound familiar? I’ll bet it does; and I know, because that was a common experience in the early days of my transition. Happily, there are ways to ease yourself into the world as the ‘real you’ without fear… Ways for you to gain confidence and assurance that who you have always been on the inside, can safely and convincingly be projected out into the world.
