“I took this shot in Kenya in 2006. It was the beginning of the afternoon, a very quiet moment for the lions. They had spent the entire morning hunting and now it was time to relax. There are three females here — either a mother with her sister and cub or perhaps a mother with her daughter and her cub. Most of my work concentrates on simple scenes of animals’ daily lives. My aim is to take portraits of wildlife and to forge an intimate bond between mammals and humans. I believe that animals have the same ‘humanity’ as us: they have personalities and feel emotions. I like this picture because I think everybody can feel the tenderness between these lions.”
This photograph is taken from The Family Album of Wild Africa by Laurent Baheux, published by teNeues and YellowKorner.
