Greetings to you, Ultramarine reader!

As in the wider world, change is definitely in the air in this issue, and we have plenty of material to stimulate ‘the old grey matter’ with all our regular features plus not just one, but two new series kicking-off ! Of particular interest, take a look at our first instalment of Danilo Ronchi’s two-part ‘Change is in the Water’ piece, in which we gain a fascinating insight into the range of opinions on the subject offered by a panel of international experts at a recent aquatics conference in Italy. With that discussion in mind, it is perhaps fitting that we are also featuring a tank in this issue that forgoes regular water changes in favour of ICP testing and adjustment ... a beautiful example of a contemporary reef if ever there was one.

Beyond talk of captive systems and their management, Rich Aspinall also starts a promising new three-part series examining the anatomy of wild reef habitats. Based on this month’s piece, in which he investigates tropical shorelines, I’m personally already looking forward to the next instalment for another fix of natural inspiration. Back to technology and
Keith Moyle completes his fascinating series on aquarium control, while Dave Wolfenden provides a useful stand-alone practical piece, methodically deconstructing the modern reef aquarium to show you that the whole really can be greater than the sum of its parts.

Whatever stage you find yourself in the journey of reef-keeping, we hope
you’ll continue to support the magazine, however turbulent the times!
