Puppy Doris hand-reared after being dumped before storm
Tiny bundle of fur Doris was being bottle-fed by staff at RSPCA Millbrook in Surrey every three hours after she was found by communal bins in February during Storm Doris. Now RSPCA inspectors are investigating how she came to be by the bins and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward. RSPCA inspector Liz Wheeler said: “It is incredible to think someone would dump a dog — but to do it to a poor defenceless puppy who is so vulnerable is just awful — heartless. It’s lucky she was found before Storm Doris rolled in, otherwise who knows what would have happened to her. This puppy is so young we’re not even sure what breed she is. Luckily the lady that found her took her into the warm, fed her some puppy milk and looked after her until we came to collect her. I dread to think what would’ve happened to her otherwise.” Deputy manager at RSPCA Millbrook, Liz Wood, who is looking after Doris added: “Poor Doris was so tiny she needed a lot of help from us being fed. She was far, far too young to be away from her mother so it is really lucky she was found. We are doing everything we can for her and she is getting stronger every day and we are hoping she continues to do so.”
