Each year what we eat changes and different foods, like fashions, have their time to shine. Looking back over the last few years we’ve seen the huge dominance of avocado toast on every brunch menu, fermented kimchi popping up on supermarket shelves and bright, layered rainbow cakes all over our Instagram feeds, to name but a few. So what’s in store this year? Whole Foods (wholefoodsmarket.com) have predicted what we are going to be eating in 2019. From kelp noodles to avocado ice cream, it looks set to be a great year for vegan foodies.
1 PACIFIC RIM FLAVOURS
People love to explore the world through their taste buds, and as more people travel to regions like Asia and Oceania, and the western coasts of North and South America, flavours from the Pacific Rim are becoming more present in our foods. Vibrant fruits including dragon fruit, guava, and passionfruit, are making their way into smoothie bowls and cocktails, and have increased in demand at grocery stores. Likewise, jackfruit has become a favourite meat-alternative, to replace foods like barbeque pulled pork.
