Boiling Point

Extreme Weather

It’s impossible to ignore the fact that we’ve had one of the warmest summers on record this year in the UK — the Met Office confirmed we experienced our hottest June day in 41 years (with a temperature of 34.5ºC). The warmer weather caused meltdown across the country with failing transport lines, severe weather warnings and even instances of death — fatalities rose to 650 more than average during the peak of the heatwave. And, if you recall, this came off the back of one of the harshest winters we’ve felt in years, with the Beast from the East bringing repeated bouts of snow, strong winds and temperatures as low as -15ºC. It begs the question: what is going on with the weather? Are these the effects of global warming that we, as vegans, are trying so hard to avoid?
