Why do you run? For my sanity! As a plussized runner, I don’t look how society thinks a runner should, but it’s important for running to be inclusive because it really is for everybody. I honestly think running saved me through lockdown. Even though it was lonely running alone, posting my runs on Ackworth Road Runners page kept me connected. Now we can run together again I’m even more thankful for parkrun – those 70 weeks (yes, I counted!) when we couldn’t run together were soul-destroying.
Training for anything? The big one! London Marathon in October – I’m so excited I could burst! I’ve been applying for 10 years and never got in through the ballot so I’ve taken a charity place with the British Heart Foundation. My father was diagnosed with vascular dementia last year and it’s been heart-breaking seeing him deteriorate (some days he doesn’t know who I am)
The research the BHF does is important so I’m fundraising for them. justgiving.com/ fundraising/alison-johnbaptiste
