The Dead Sea Marathon might well be the lowest race on earth at 427m below sea level but it is set in such uplifting surroundings you’d be hard pushed to think of it in any way other than heavenly.
The course, which leads around the southern, Israeli side of the Dead Sea, takes you on gravel dykes across what Israel calls its Salt Sea to the friendly border with neighbouring Jordan. Believe me when I say you’ve only got other runners, turquoise water and sparkling crystalline salt flats for company. Idyllic!
