Natalie Dau took on a challenge to run solo from Thailand to Singapore, a distance of 1,000K. Taking 12 days, this run also marked a historic moment, which culminated on 5 June, Global Running Day, where hundreds of runners joined in supporting her through to the finish line in Singapore.
A 10-time ultramarathon winner, Dau crossed the finish line at the Westin Singapore to complete her incredible project. Natalie traversed the entire length of Malaysia, covering a distance equivalent to approximately two marathons per day. She has been recognised by the Singapore Book of Records for the Fastest 1000K Thailand-Singapore Ultramarathon, and her Guinness World Record title for the Fastest Crossing of Peninsular Malaysia on Foot is pending certification.
Throughout the 12-day run, Natalie battled extreme heat, lack of sleep and dangerous road conditions. Funds raised through Project 1000 are contributed to GRLS, a global charity and part of Women Win, which works to elevate women and girls around the world through sport and exercise.
While challenging herself to push to new limits, Natalie hopes that her example may help others to feel confident, dream bigger, and resist self-limiting beliefs and societal expectations. “No matter what your goal is, everyone should feel that they can do something and believe in themselves,” she said.
