VIRTUAL LONDON MARATHON
Lockdown without a London Marathon? It wasn’t a possibility. The April race was postponed until October, but when a mass-participation event still wasn’t viable, the events team switched to a virtual format. Runners pinned on their race numbers and pounded their own streets to show support of this iconic event. A small group of elites did take to the streets of London (well a very small section) in horrific weather, while over 40,000 battled in their own event to complete the 26.2. And in doing so, the British public not only ensured the survival of so many of our charities, but showed how tough, amazing and wonderful they are. A well-deserved win by Virtual London Marathon, but really, the winners are the runners who finished their own personal marathon.
