Salomon’s first foray into racing shoes is a belter! The Phantasm are featherlight at just 199g, and they look incredible. The upper is basically see-through (make sure you’re wearing your best socks), while below you have Salomon’s lightest, most responsive foam, Energy Surge. There isn’t any plating, but the Phantasm is not without tech. It has a reverse camber profile that promises to give you a quick transition. In practice, this makes for a very fast shoe. They fit is spot on, although they’re perhaps a little high in the tongue, as there is some pressure there, and they’re snug around the midfoot. They felt zippy and springy during fast sessions, and moulded to my soles, rather than pulling at them, as plated shoes can often do. A confident and gorgeous entry into the fast-paced racing market.
