The Cefalu Half Marathon in Sicily takes place in the seaside town, just an hour by train from the island capital, Palermo. The town is one of the prettiest you’ve seen, and you’ll see a lot of it if you take on this race.
Starting on the seafront, the route heads away from the town, along the promenade before heading back. As you turn to face the town it offers a picture postcard view; the medieval cathedral towering over the roofs and La Rocca (the big hill) behind it.
After running back past the start, the route makes a right turn up a hill. Once at the top you turn left, and the old town beckons you. The cobbled streets take you past the front of the cathedral, cafes and rows of small shops, then spits you back out again onto the seafront.
“The last kilometre of the race is downhill, so you can hurtle towards the finish at full pelt. After crossing the line we were presented with a very shiny medal and a fab goodie bag”
