ABOUT ANNA

In 2017, Anna Harding started running as a result of losing one of her friends to a one punch attack on a night out. His death sparked a desire to make the most of her life and fulfil her dreams by setting actual, real-life goals. The first was running a marathon before she turned 30. She completed Edinburgh Marathon that year, having gone pretty much from couch to marathon in five months. She had hoped to cross the line with an elusive sub-4 hour time goal, but ran it in 4:07:05 and so, her desire to continue chasing down that time led her to two more marathons (Budapest and London) before achieving it at the Berlin Marathon in 2018. During her running journey, she quit her job as a radio journalist and started working in a team who created The Running Channel, a YouTube channel for runners just like her who wanted to learn more about their hobby. Since then she has gone on to complete ultra marathons, cross country races, track races and more than 50 parkruns, as well as a number of mad challenges like a backyard marathon and running a race through the streets of central London in her underwear, which she films for the YouTube channel.
ALBERT EINSTEIN
I’m a true believer that if a goal doesn’t scare you then maybe it’s not big enough. The first time I publicly put it out there that I wanted to try and run a Boston Marathon qualifying time was on the Women’s Running podcast in September 2020. It felt like a big and scary goal to be able to run 26.2 miles in under three hours and 30 minutes, but having achieved so much in my running journey already, I wanted to at least give it a shot.
During 2020, my running had hit a real roadblock. The Covid-19 pandemic had had a huge impact on my already fragile mental health, so much so that I experienced total burnout and a breakdown which, in turn, had a knock-on effect on my physical health too. My fitness really took a hit and I wasn’t running anywhere near the amount I used to. I put it down to not having races in the diary to train for and the additional life stresses that so many of us experienced as we navigated our way through that unprecedented time.
After a conversation with my boss at The Running Channel, Andy Baddeley, I decided that my goal was going to be to aim for a Boston Marathon qualifying time in a marathon, as soon as real-life races were back on. I run to be strong and to prove to myself that I can do things I didn’t think possible, and this goal felt like it ticked my boxes.
