Debra Bourne lost three years to three major injuries: a torn posterior tibial tendon, a broken ankle and a stress-fractured pelvis. Undeterred, she set out to run 10 marathons in 10 days to prove she could come back stronger, and chose a November challenge to celebrate her 50th birthday

She came, she ran, she conquered – 10 times over!
I ran five 50-mile events the year after I turned 45, so I wanted a different challenge for reaching 50. My three major injuries between 2014 and 2016 spurred me on to prove I could not just come back from injury but come back stronger by my 50th birthday. “My first running race was the Royal Parks Half Marathon in 2009, which I reprised in 2010 and 2011. I tackled my first 50K in February 2012 and ran the inaugural ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon in April 2012, finishing in 3hrs 47mins. I completed the North Downs Way 50 miler in May that year in 9hrs 53mins, loved it, and intended to try 100-milers after my five 50-milers in 2013. Then disaster struck.
