Championing mental health

Amy Teague, Runr, runr.co.uk

“Recent months have been very different for all of us in the world of running. With races cancelled or postponed, club training sessions cancelled, parkrun on pause, running has now become an individual sport for a period of time. The one thing that never changes is the sense of support and encouragement from the running community, which has become stronger than ever.

“Mental health is a huge talking point at the moment and using running as a way to manage your own mental health is becoming increasingly common, and more importantly, people are talking about it, which is fantastic.

“Runners have been sharing new routes, posting their amazing pictures from sunrise to sunset, and are inspiring each other to keep running and clocking up the miles. Social media is being used for its positive purposes of bringing runners together at a time of uncertainty and we can see how many positives will come from the past few months. I have taken up running again six months after the birth of my daughter, Lottie. She was well worth the wait, but being a mum is exhausting; you never get a day off, you work overtime, you think you understand your role and then the goal posts move. Then throw lockdown, weaning and sleep training into the mix and you’ve got one tired mumma. The solution: Miles for Mind.
