If you’re following a training plan with very specific running workouts, such as intervals, you can programme this into your Garmin so that you don’t have to worry about losing count of your reps. This sounds simple but is incredibly useful when you’re out and about.
There are two ways of doing this. If you want to do it quickly and on-thego, there’s a way to do it through your Garmin watch. If you have a slightly more complicated workout with multiple steps, you’ll need to use the Garmin Connect app to set it up and then sync it across to your watch afterwards.
Starting with the watch, select Start and select a running activity. Scroll to the Training menu and choose Intervals. Scroll down to edit the workout. You can select the type of interval by scrolling to the Type menu under Duration. Your choices are time, distance, or open. Select Duration to set the distance of your interval, for example 400 metres.
Once your interval duration and type have been confirmed, scroll down to Rest to set your recovery time before your next interval. Follow the same process as you did to set your initial interval by choosing both Duration and Type for your rest. Next you can choose how many times you would like to repeat your interval and rest combination in the Repeat menu. Finally, you can choose to have the warm-up and cooldown steps on or off.
