Swimming is excellent as a rehab exercise as there’s no impact on the body
Swimming offers a great aerobic workout without the high impact of running, so it’s suitable for many (but not all) injuries. It will help build core, back and upper body strength. You can also work fairly hard in the pool and do really satisfying interval sets Pool lengths vary, and you could find your local pool is anything from 20 to 60 metres long. The plan below is based on a 25m pool, so ask at reception how long yours is and adapt as necessary.
Swimming kit You’ll need a swimming costume, goggles and a swim cap as well as 20p or £1 for your locker. A pull buoy is a good investment too if you need to avoid using your legs or just want to work on your stroke technique. Made from foam, you place the buoy between your legs so that they’re bouyant without having to kick. This means you can use just your upper body to move through the water which is good for concentrating on form.
