Walking is a lot like running – just a bit slower. So while you may get frustrated at first by how long it takes you to do a mile, you will still be able to get outside and work your running muscles gently. Best of all, you won’t need any new kit!
The best thing about walking is that it’s accessible to lots of people so you can do it with friends who aren’t into running or with kids. Or look up a local walking group and join them for an outing. The Long Distance Walkers Association (ldwa.org.uk) is a good place to find groups, routes and events.
Choose routes you might usually avoid when running because they’re too hilly, involve stiles or are off-road. Walk to a cafe or pub for lunch and walk home again.
