Bitter sweet

Blueberry muffins could contain up to eight teaspoons of sugar – more than the recommended daily intake for adults – analysis by Action on Sugar and the Obesity Health Alliance has found.

Looking at 28 muffins sold in food outlets in train stations and supermarkets, the researchers found that 61 per cent of them contained six teaspoons of sugar or more. The recommended daily limit is seven teaspoons for adults, six teaspoons for children aged seven to 10, and five teaspoons for children aged four to six.
