Q Any tips for what to look out for when choosing a physio?
A The gold standard is someone with a minimum of five years’ experience. Some physios may be great with soft -tissue work, others may excel at rehabilitation or working with athletes – so it really depends on your needs and their areas of specialisation. Don’t be shy about visiting different practices and websites so you get a feel for them first. You also need to factor in price and location. Ultimately, choosing the right physio comes down to how they make you feel. Do you feel welcome and well looked after? I always think a physio who works with other clinicians in a multidisciplinary practice is the best option. For instance, my clinic has an osteopath, a chiropractor, sports massage therapists and rehab specialists, enabling clients to tap into different areas of expertise depending on their specific needs. Perhaps the most important thing of all is to find someone who connects with you and inspires you, since this is the person who will motivate you to get better. AW
