This campaign isn’t about bashing men. To be clear, we’re not saying all men harass women. But being defensive won’t bring change. Feeling offended if a woman looks frightened won’t make things better. Many women feel unsafe and even if you’re the loveliest bloke on the planet, a woman on her own may see you as a threat because unfortunately, from a distance, it’s difficult to tell the difference between a nice guy and a not-nice guy.
Ask yourself if you need to rethink your ideas about gender inequality. If so, check out beyondequality.org and read Grayson Perry’s book The Descent of Man. Why not join the white ribbon campaign (whiteribbon.org. uk), which seeks to work with men to change the attitudes and culture in which violence is normalised and allowed to develop.
