This Herron has wings. She’s trounced men in ultrarunning events and is tireless in her pursuit of change
American ultrarunner Camille Herron, 2017 Comrades Marathon champion and world record holder for 50 and 100 miles, is more than a runner; she’s also an advocate of, and a vocal campaigner for, equality in sport for women.
She said in a tweet: “While women are winning ultra-marathons outright, HS [high school] and collegiate women in XC [cross country] continue to run a shorter distance than men. Why? Creating a mindset of inferiority at a young age does nothing to advance the sport. We are more than capable.”
