“The list of inspirational running heroes in my life is near enough endless,” says Donna Richards from Wallington. “From the wellknown icons including Kathrine Switzer, Haile Gebrselassie, Jo Pavey, Denise Lewis, Paula Radcliffe, Zola Budd, Sally Gunnell, Mara Yamauchi, Mo Farah and Lornah Kiplagat to my everyday running friends who form part of my extended running family – I won’t attempt to list them all for fear of omitting anyone! But if I had to choose just one, the person who’s inspired my running the most is Dame Kelly Holmes, who won two gold medals at the 2004 Olympic Games. Despite facing adversity in her personal life, she refused to give up on her running dreams and I admire her passion for and dedication to her sport. I love, too, that she’s set up the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust, which supports athletes helping disadvantaged young people get their lives back on track.
