Meet the editors
1 Christina Macdonald launched Women’s Running in February 2010. “The biggest highlight for me during my time at WR was winning several awards, and also my running comeback. In 2011, I tore the meniscus (cartilage) in my left knee and was told I’d never run again. I spoke to a physio friend who said I could run if I did regular strength work and, within two years, I’d run nine half marathons and one marathon. I qualified as a running coach in 2012 and after leaving WR went on to become a personal trainer. I’ve also written two books, Run Yourself Fit and Dementia Care: A Guide.”
2 Elizabeth Hufton became WR’s second editor in August 2015. “I started running in 1999 and went on to complete eight marathons (with a PB of 3hrs 28mins 4secs) and two Ironman triathlons. Working at WR was an emotional time for me as I’d been running on and off since the age of 19 but WR was mostly an ‘off ‘ period due to injury – which made it tough when there was amazing gear to test and races to run. However, it helped me reassess what I valued about running and keep run/walking even when I couldn’t chase PBs any more. This has been incredibly helpful to me since leaving WR as, three weeks into my next job (I’m now editing membership and charity magazines), I discovered I was pregnant!”
3 “When I started out as an intern at WR in 2014, Chris (the editor at the time) couldn’t go on a press trip to New York, so I went instead”, says Jenny Bozon, WR’s editor since the November 2017 issue. “On arrival, I was told I had an exclusive interview with Wilson Kipsang. I nearly fell off my chair. I’d never interviewed anyone before, never mind a former marathon world-record holder! I spent that evening hiding in my hotel room researching everything about him and, the following morning, I was sweating and shaking like mad. Despite no dictaphone and the video recorder not working properly, I got through it! I moved up through the ranks to become editor last year. It’s been an amazing journey. I’ve met some enormously inspiring people and I’ve done things I never thought I was capable of – including that very first interview.”
