• Biofeedback devices. These tell you if you’re doing your PFEs effectively. The most basic is a tampon-shaped device with a small rod attached to it. If you squeeze correctly the rod will rise and as the muscles relax, it falls. More expensive options include vaginal probes with pressure sensors which detect muscle contraction. A popular model is the Elvie which links to an app on your phone and gives you immediate feedback as to the length and strength of your muscle contractions.
• Vaginal exercisers. These devices provide some resistance for your pelvic floor muscles to help them get stronger. An example is the PelvicToner (available on an NHS prescription). Used lying down, you insert the tampon shaped device which opens up slightly inside you. When you squeeze your pelvic floor muscles the device closes. You can set different levels of resistance for your muscles to work against with different spring strengths.
