WHEN IS IT SAFE TO START JOGGING AGAIN AFTER A URINARY TRACT INFECTION?
This very much depends on how severe the urinary tract infection (UTI) was. With a short, mild cystitis (when the infection is restricted to the bladder wall and you haven’t had any symptoms apart from bladder ones), then you can run again as soon as you feel able. UTIs that have made you feel generally unwell, particularly if you had a high temperature, back pain or any vomiting, need more recovery time. These UTIs can really knock you for six. Wait until you can get through a typical day without feeling exhausted, which may take a week or two. Then set out for a short, test walk/ run session. You can increase back up to your normal training over a few weeks. Remember to keep well hydrated and have a long drink when you’ve finished your session.
