In an exhilarating race, TigistAssefa dominated the Berlin Marathon finishing first with a new world record of 2:11:53. Assefa took more than two minutes off Brigid Kosgei’s previous record, defending her title in the race that she also won last year.
After pulling away from the field by halfway, Assefa was even stronger in the second half. This was only the third marathon of her career, and she was powered by the new Adidas Adizero Adios Prov Evo 1 racing shoes. At £400 a pair, it’s likely these new shoes will be beyond the reach of most runners but they certainly worked for Assefa.
