I’m loving my Catamounts now that muddy trails and wet paths are a daily occurrence. I would say ‘hindrance’ but the Catamounts have taken away all fears about slipping, twisting and tripping hazards on my runs. I’ve had trail shoes before but have never loved them like my main runners. I had a pared-back pair that made my feet ache after about 10K and I had a hybrid pair that seemed to just fall between a rock and a hard place. They were too rigid for me and we never really clicked. The Catamounts are different; they’re flexible and light and they hug my foot almost as well as my Brooks Adrenalines. The upper dries quickly, which is a bonus, but I wonder if they’ll feel chilly in the depths of winter. For now, they’re bang on. The grip is another thing I’ve had niggles with before; some shoes excel on muddy paths but bomb on wet stones. These have TrailTack tech which means they grip on wet and dry, and have the excellently named Balistic Rock Shield, which protects your feet from the bump and grind of rocky terrain. They’re cushioned and give good energy return, and although mine are a bit muddy now, they’re still a thing of beauty in my eyes.
