BREAKFAST LIKE A KING…
Dieters with an appetite for a big brekkie are in luck. A new study, published in the Journal of Nutrition, has found that eating a big breakfast – and making breakfast or lunch the largest meal of the day – lowers BMI. Researchers collected data from more than 50,000 adults, and analysed their eating habits and weight over seven years. Alongside eating breakfast regularly and making the first meals of the day the largest, skipping a meal or two, or fasting for 18 hours, were found to decrease BMI. According to Dr Hana Kahleova, the body is more likely to gain weight from eating 2,000 calories spread throughout the day, than in one sitting. However, runners should be cautious: eating regularly – and sufficient calories – is key to ensuring you’ve got enough energy to fuel your runs, so stagger calorie intake sensibly.
