SALMING ELEMENTS

Need to be seen on the trails? You will not be missed in these neon yellow numbers – and thankfully the performance is pretty blinding, too. The Elements is described as being perfect for obstacle courses and fell running, as well as trail running. We tried it out during a spectacularly wet period, running mostly on deeply muddy, slippery forest slopes, as well as more manageable chip paths and river towpaths. The grip from the 8mm lugs is brilliant and feel for the ground – for what looks like a fairly bulky shoe – is really good, too. Its low heelto- toe drop and RunLite midsole help you really know the trail underneath your feet, which is especially good when the conditions are constantly changing to work against you. These won’t keep your feet dry, but they do drain exceptionally well and dried really quickly even after very stormy runs. A small feature that we really liked was the laces, which absolutely stayed tied no matter what. The Elements have a deliberately roomy toe box so that your forefoot can spread out as it lands, but we did find this meant it felt a bit too loose sometimes, even with careful adjustment of the laces – well worth trying on before you buy. Overall though, a great shoe for people who like to hit the trails in any weather.
