KEEP RUNNING, MUMMY!
Trying to maintain a running routine when you have a young family is not, as I have come to learn over the past six years, plain sailing. It needs planning, coordination and scheduling.
When it comes to lacing up my trainers and heading out of the door for a run, my children are (for the most part) my greatest supporters. They also play a huge role in the inspiration and motivation departments. I want to prove to them you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it. And that it doesn’t matter how slow you are – if you keep going and cross that finish line, you will get a medal (which basically means you’re a winner).
But let’s be realistic here. A young family can also be a bit of a hindrance. Got kids? No longer can you easily head out for leisurely solo weekend runs; or complete a tempo session straight after work; or manage to attend that evening strength and conditioning class; or spend an hour soaking in a blissfully restorative magnesium bath (even if you do, the chance of a small human entering the bathroom for a poo halfway through is high).
