Florence Griffith showed huge potential from a young age, winning the Jesse Owens National Youth Games two years in a row, at the ages of 14 and 15. Griffith attended the California State University at Northridge, and was on the track team coached by renowned Bob Kersee. She was NCAA champion in 1982 in the 200 metres and quickly became an American track and field star.
