FASTEST EVER WOMEN’S HALF MARATHON
Kenya’s Brigid Kosgei runs new world record 64:28 at the Great North Run
The Great North Run is the biggest half marathon in the UK, and beloved by the nation’s runners – and this year was a record-breaking event. Kenyan Brigid Kosgei cruised to an invincible 64mins 28secs, posting the fastest ever halfmarathon by a woman. Meanwhile British runners Charlotte Purdue, Steph Twell and Hayley Carruthers all achieved PBs.
Charlotte finished first Brit, in fifth, in 68mins 10secs, moving her to number three on the British all-time rankings, behind Paula Radcliffe and Liz McColgan. She’s now focusing on the marathon at the IAAF World Championships in Doha.
