Sticking to what you know
ERROR #4
SCHOOLGIRL ERRORS
THE LESSON
Why mixing up your training is good for your mind and body.
THE TEACHER
Laura Fountain, UK Athletics Coach and PT (lazygirlrunning.com).
We all get complacent from time to time. Life is busy and, sometimes, stepping out of our comfort zones and trying something new seems far too much effort. It’s easy for runners to fall into the trap of doing the same sessions each week. If you’re a beginner, you might find the prospect of adding an extra kilometre to the 5K loop you’ve only just mastered far too daunting. And, if you’re a more experienced runner, your weekend long run and Wednesday evening threshold session might be so much part of your routine now, that varying up your training week just seems a hassle! However, whatever level of runner you are, sticking to what you know is only going to restrict your progression and might also see you losing motivation in the long term.
