56-year-old Lynne Chute’s struggles with mental health began as a child. Here she shares how running has been her lifeline
“When I was 55, I decided to do 60 different challenges up to my 60th birthday, starting and finishing with the London Marathon. I have struggled with depression since I was a child and started self-harming quite young. Later, an eating disorder added to the despair of everything and in my 30s, and after all sorts of drugs and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) had failed to stop the depression, I came very close to ending my life. I had no energy, no self worth and I hated my body. I had good spells when I felt better and began to try and plan again, but the depression would creep upon me again and life would shut down.
