Ten top tips: Productivity tips of the pros

Organise your writing life with ten practical tips from Liz Gregory

September is on the horizon and with it comes that general back-to-school feeling – time to re-organise and make plans for the academic year that lies ahead. With that in mind, here are a few ways that the most efficient and professional writers keep themselves that way.

Find a form of diarising that works for you

When you’re just starting out as a writer, it’s easy to think that you’ll remember everything that you’ve got to do. Once you’re up and running with a number of projects though, it’s surprising how easy it is to miss deadlines and events that you’re interested in, as well as juggle all your different projects and commitments. Whether you go for a paper-based diary or an electronic version, use it to record closing dates for competitions, dates of literary events or speakers you would like to see, and plan ahead for topical features that will need to be submitted in good time.
