There are two cats who regularly stray into my garden. One, a tabby, has a knack for being there to greet me when I pull up on my drive. As I get out of the car, the tabby likes to come up to me to be stroked. Then the friendly kitty always strolls off down the side of the house, climbs on to the fence, and heads off into another garden.

With its blue coloured coat, I am sure the other is a pedigree cat. This feline doesn’t come close though. I’ll often spy it from the window and it will just look back, then continue to wander around the garden. Sometimes, I’ll just see a flash of blue across the garden as it bursts out the bushes, chasing an insect.
It’s heartening how these little interactions brighten up my day. They are not my cats but they make me smile and the cats’ owners are none the wiser, which touches on the theme of a new series that starts in this issue: ‘If cats could talk…’ This series features tales of when we get a glimpse of the secret adventures our cats go on, but when we’ll never know the full story. This month, it’s a
heart-warming story about how a cat leads a double life, bringing joy to the whole neighbourhood.

This issue also sees the beginning of a new practical series: ‘The Power of Play.’ We’re delving into the role of play in our cats’ lives. Behaviourist Clare Hemington will guide you through how play is an important source of enrichment, education, and a way for owners to bond with their cats.

I can’t quite believe we’re on to the June issue already — we’re halfway through the 2021 issues.
