QI’m a little worried about my dog’s eyesight. He’s a 10-year-old Bichon Frise and lately he’s become reactive if he sees something new in his environment — barking and growling until he’s investigated the object and reassured himself that it isn’t a threat. He also seems slow to recognise his doggy and human friends, only relaxing when they move closer to him. Are there any symptoms I should be looking for that might indicate a sight problem?
Should I book him in for a vet check?

Vicky says: It definitely sounds like your dog may have problems with his vision. One possible cause would be cataracts, which can occur with age, but also with diabetes. I recommend an appointment with your vet who can examine his eyes and might refer you to a veterinary ophthalmologist.
