Enjoying some winter sunshine on his doorstep.
Taylah and Dizzy on Crosby Beach, Merseyside.
“As a redhead, I’d always wanted a ginger dog — ideally a rescue...”
Globetrotter Taylah Stewart only meant to visit Portugal for a week in 2019 but loved the country so much, she ended up staying for six months. This decision not only changed the course of the 23-year-old’s life, it secured a street dog’s future — both were in the right place at the right time, it seemed.
Growing up on a farm in New Zealand, Taylah was used to being surrounded by around 10 Huntaways — working dogs used for herding sheep — along with a couple of family pets. So, it felt strange to be more than 12,000 miles from home without a dog by her side.
But one day, while in a car en route to a pizzeria in a small town midway between Porto and Lisbon, Taylah looked out of the window and caught sight of a stray chestnut and white dog who immediately commanded her attention.
