Jack has mellowed and calmed down as he has got older.
“I’d take Jack to the desert island. Jack is about 12 years old. We don’t know exactly because he was a rescue, but he’s a senior boy.
“When we first got him, my husband and I still used to have the occasional cigarette. Once, when we had a date night, the children were with Granny, and we’d been to the butcher’s and got two enormous steaks for our special dinner. Then, we stood at the back door having a naughty cigarette. When we came back into the kitchen, the stea ks were gone from the worktop; Jack had had them. They were mauled on the floor, in pieces — but it served us right for having cigarettes!
