It has been 10 years since a worrying new illness struck UK dogs. Vicky Payne recalls the emergence of Alabama rot.

There was a number of early cases of Alabama rot in the New Forest.
Iremember it well — the first cluster of cases was in the New Forest and was the subject of much discussion when I visited the area to do a lecture to vets on herbal medicines. Dogs were becoming ill after walks in the forest, and developing skin sores and kidney failure. But what was the cause?
