We painted our blank canvas with plenty of colour

Simone and Christian Hadley injected oodles of personality into their house with hand-painted murals, bursts of colour and carefully chosen treasures
The mirror was another tip find which Simone has painted in Amble Sea, and the bookcase was found in a charity shop and given a new lease of life in Earl Grey, both by Everlong Paint
A corner sofa and fluffy rug, both from Ikea, mean there’s plenty of space for everyone to sit together, while also making clever use of the open-plan space with zones which are separate but still spacious

Good idea!

Photos framed in the same colour scheme create a cohesive look, while wooden initials or words personalise the space.

A love of interiors and upcycling vintage furniture has been central to Simone and Christian’s love story. The couple met at university and married shortly after graduation, spending their weekends seeking out furniture to which they could give a new lease of life. ‘I always loved interiors and doing up houses, rooting around in car boot sales and spending my free time painting furniture,’ remembers Simone. When children came along they realised their two-bedroom new-build, as well as all their furniture finds, would need a bigger space. ‘The house was just about okay when we had Rhys,’ she says. ‘But I could see when I was pregnant with Eliza, that it was very soon going to be too cramped. We wanted enough space for everyone to have a bedroom, plus a spare, as well as a reasonable-sized garden.’ After weeks of searching, they spotted their house online one Saturday evening and, because it ticked off many of the items on their wish list, headed over to take a look on the Sunday morning, even chancing their luck by knocking on the door. ‘We had our son with us and the owner could see we were serious so she let us look round and we told her we wanted to make an offer on the spot via the estate agents, which was accepted.’

About Your Home Magazine

I don’t know about you, but I always feel like we’ve turned a corner in April. The clocks have gone forward, so we’ve got longer, lighter days; the weather is getting warmer, so we can fling open the windows and let the fresh air in and the garden is bursting with colourful flowers beckoning us outside. And not forgetting, it’s Easter this month, which means we get a lovely long bank holiday weekend to look forward to (which is perfect for getting stuck into a spot of decorating)! So with all this on the horizon we’ve filled this issue with lots of exciting spring features. It’s time to ditch those furry throws and heavy winter curtains and lighten up your home’s look for the months ahead. On page 36 we take a look at the latest fabric trends and show how you can use them to give your home the ‘wow’ factor. While on page 42 we discover lots of great new products to take away your wash day blues. If you haven’t already noticed, green is the big colour trend for this year, so on page 20 we show how to give your home a gorgeous leafy green makeover with purse-friendly accessories. To celebrate Easter our Craft Editor, Sophie, has designed some adorable projects to brighten up your home – you’re going to love the cute little lambs (p.60)! And make sure you check out our quick and easy recipes on page 100, perfect for making your Easter family gettogether really special. Have a great month and a very happy Easter!
