The sofa came from SOUL in Arnotts, which Susan has dressed with a selection of cushions that she made from scarves and old fabric. The back wall features black and white photos that were taken by Adam and a vintage poster from Wolfgang’s Vault. The table is from Debenhams and the rug was bought at Ikea
Back in 2008 when Susan and Adam first viewed this recently built apartment, having rented for some time, they were excited at the prospect of buying their first home together. ‘We were keen to buy and this apartment was the perfect size for us. We loved the location, it’s close to the city centre and local amenities, and it’s a nice private oasis in a busy area. It’s also very bright with large glass doors that open up onto a balcony so we had the added bonus of an outside space, so although small it didn’t feel cramped,’ explains Susan.
The couple were on quite a tight budget so, as the apartment was already decorated and had a fitted kitchen and bathroom, it suited them that they wouldn’t have to spend any money initially, and could move in straight away. ‘The kitchen and bathroom weren’t really to our taste, but we decided to live with the fittings. Our main priority was to furnish the apartment, I wanted to take time and save to invest in some classic pieces that wouldn’t date and would give the apartment a stylish and contemporary look, and I knew if I teamed these with some Ikea pieces I could achieve the look we wanted for the flat,’ explains Susan.
