New turquoise covers on the Ikea sofa, topped with Flora’s handmade cushions and a Primark throw bring bold colour to white walls. Wooden details like a driftwood mirror bought locally, a vase found in a charity shop and a coffee table from Gumtree all complete the look
Flora Kingue Kouta admits she’s addicted to joyful, bright colours and, if you look inside her home, you’ll find the perfect reflection in the form of a sea of blue and green with bright pinks, oranges and golds in between. Her inspiration comes from the summers she spent in Portugal as a child, which gave her a deep-rooted love of the kind of vibrant colour you tend to find in warmer climes. ‘Without turquoise, lime, orange and pink I feel depressed,’ she says.
Flora mixed the kitchen wall paint colours herself. ‘Paint is always darker on the walls than in the tin and I love to experiment to get it exactly as I want it,’ she says. Richard fitted blue and green tiles from Homebase, with a second-hand Smeg fridge bringing more minty green to the scene. The kitchen table also came from Homebase with chairs from a local furniture charity shop
