Our cottage living room went from bland to beautiful

By doing the decorating herself and calling on talented friends Jess May soon had the family living room she dreamed of
The new room is a perfect family space that allows everyone to relax and spend time together

Good idea!

Hang both blinds and curtains for a really sumptuous look and make a feature of your windows.

When Jess May, 27, partner Mark, 32, and daughter Amelie, three, moved to their three-bedroom cottage in Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire, just before Christmas in 2015, the whole house needed some TLC. ‘It had a lovely open and airy feel but everything was quite worn and the more we looked at it, the more we saw that past DIY hadn’t been done well and we had a lot to do, so we wanted to get started straight away,’ explains Jess. ‘We were up for a challenge and with friends and family happy to help us out we were spurred on to get it up to scratch.’ The living room was a plain square box with no character, a tatty laminate floor and little to redeem it, but Jess could see past the bland décor and imagine the cosy family room that she could create.
