The papal address and blessing of Urbi et Orbi (To the people and to the world) is given at Easter and Christmas, at noon, from the central loggia of St Peter’s Basilica. Those who devoutly receive the blessing are granted a plenary indulgence: a reduction in punishment for their sins. To obtain this, the sinner must also receive sacramental confession and Eucharistic communion with 20 days of the blessing (before or after) and offer prayers for the intentions of the Pope. You used to have to be there in person, but these days you can watch it on telly, or even online. But you still have to see a priest.
