Leonardo’s vineyard is back in production

Vino Da Vinci

A team of experts have restored the vineyard that was gifted to Leonardo Da Vinci (a great wine lover) by the Duke of Milan as payment for The Last Supper, and the results of their harvest are now ready to drink. The vineyard was destroyed during the second world war, but oenologists found the remains of the original Malvasia di Candia Aromatica vines and replanted them. The ‘new’ white wine has been produced according to traditional techniques likely to have been used during Leonardo’s time. But don’t get your hopes up about sampling a glass – the team only made around 300 bottles, which sold at a private auction, so you won’t be finding it at your local off-licence any time soon.
