Padua below the surface

Four good reasons to love Padua
This is a region famous for its thermal springs, so a day spent enjoying the healing waters is perfectly justified!

Lorenza Bacino goes beyond the obvious attractions to discover four things to see and do that might not be top of the normal tourist list

The picturesque city of Padua is often overlooked by visitors heading to the more famous Veneto cities of Venice and Verona…

Yet this pretty city of less than a quarter of a million people on the Venetian plain between Venice and the Euganean Hills is a thriving economic and cultural centre that has plenty to offer the visitor. The city centre is rich in Medieval and Renaissance art and architecture, but this is not all that the city represents. Not only does Padua stand in the largest thermal basin in Europe, it is also home to one of the continent’s oldest and most prestigious universities, and it is absolutely perfectly located for sojourns into the Euganean Hills.
